2007 Heart Ready Community Award

Imagine that a painful disease is killing 340,000 Americans per year…
Imagine that scientists have invented a device that can save many of these victims...
Imagine that rescuers have these devices but cannot always get to the victims in time...
Now imagine that one of these victims is someone you love…

The Heart Ready Community Award

THE HEART READY COMMUNITY AWARD IS FOR:
Hospitals, Clinics, Companies, Schools, Colleges, Condos, Gated Communities, Grocery Stores, Fitness Clubs, Malls, Churches, Senior Centers, and Nursing Homes, to name a few.

  • The Heart Ready Award recognizes communities that are already leading the way with their AED or Automated External Defibrillator programs.
  • The Heart Ready Award provides incentive and step-by-step guidance for communities that need help setting up an organized AED program.
  • The Heart Ready Award establishes a statewide standard for communities so that the effectiveness of AED programs can be measured.
  • The Heart Ready Award will evaluate sites on a yearly basis ensuring constant improvement.

KNOW THE FACTS

  • Each year 340,000 people in the United States die from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
  • When SCA occurs, the heart’s pumping actions stops suddenly; the victim loses consciousness, has no pulse, and stops breathing normally.
  • For each minute that passes without defibrillation, chances of survival decrease by 7-10 percent.
  • After 4 minutes, lack of oxygen begins to damage the brain.
  • The average arrival time for most response vehicles is 10-12 minutes.
  • AEDS put the power to save lives in civilian hands.
  • It is estimated that 40,000 lives would be saved annually if AEDS were more readily available.
